The Flash’s Jesse L Martin discusses future of the show

It’s a tough time for The Flash’s Detective Joe West and his daughter, according to Jesse L. Martin…

The Flash premiered in the US last week to much adoration from comic book fans. Although changes to the source material offended some, the vast majority seem to have love the fun superpowered entertainment on display.

Jesse L. Martin, who plays Detective Joe West, has been discussing where the show is headed with The Hollywood Reporter.

“Joe’s having a hard time with [Barry's new abilities], to be honest,” said Martin of his character’s relationship with his surrogate son. “He doesn’t know how to deal with it. It seems crazy to him what’s going on, and he’s really worried for Barry.”
Joe’s daughter Iris, played by Candice Patton and posed as a potential love interest for Barry, Martin noted that “she seems interested all of a sudden in what’s going on — the impossible Red Streak.”

“We're seeing her from the ground up,” he added. “She's starting as a blogger and as the season progresses, we'll see her take journalism to heart and that'll be her beginning. There's a great line when Barry says in episode two, 'We were all struck by that bolt' — everybody on the show was changed that night whether they know it or not.”

And of Barry? Martin describes him briefly as “a big ball of worry.” Not much given away then, but an intriguing insight into the show. Martin also hinted that his character’s wife may make appearances.
